Laryngitis

Laryngitis is an inflammation of the larynx or voice box, which can occur due to overuse, irritation, or infection of the vocal cords. When the vocal cords function normally, they open and close smoothly to produce sound through vibration. However, when inflamed, the vocal cords swell, distorting the sounds and causing a hoarse voice or even reducing it to a whisper. Laryngitis can be acute, lasting a short period after a viral infection or vocal strain, or chronic, persisting for longer periods due to factors like prolonged irritation or underlying medical conditions.
